Home Sick

My kids started a new school last week, so we've all fell with the crud this week. Mom's gave in and got sick yesterday. I'm home sick again today. Wanted to show off what I finished this week I completed my first spinning project. I thread plyed it with some knit picks curio.

I also finished my Besties Measure Love hat. It's so soft and squishy! Thought I messed up the harder stitch part and had to drop down and fix it. Hopefully the so ;) part will block out!?!

I started some Baylor socks for my step father. I'm using Hannah Fettig's Family Socks pattern in the men's size. It seems really big, but I guess they need to be. Just turned the heel on the first one.

I'm going to try to work on my husband's sweater vest today. I'm getting way behind!

Not Feeling It

I'm not feeling chatty today, but I wanted to update you guys on what I've been working on this week.
My second April Sock looks like this right now. The purple stitch marker shows where I started yesterday. I knitted on this in traffic yesterday. My usual hour commute took 3 hours yesterday. So we weren't moving very fast and I got to knit and listed to Dragonfly in Amber.
I'm about 6 repeats into my husband's birthday sweater vest. I've only gotten about 2 or 3 chart repeats done this week.
I started and really mostly have been working on this hat. The pattern is Measure in Love by Megan Williams and I am knitting it in Lorna's Laces Honor that I got from Jimmy Beans Wool. The colorway is called Besties, it was the limited edition color for February.

Hasta!

Empty Bananas

I'm going to go on a bit of a tangent first. There will be knitting later but I have to share what a weird day I had yesterday. I have no pictures (kinda a good thing) but I wish someone other than my kids could have been there to capture this. My day starts early, 5am, I'm out the door at 5:45, waaaaay before anyone else in my house gets up. I was in the kitchen grabbing my food for the day and went for a banana out of the fruit bowl for breakfast. It looked fine until I had it in my hand and realized it was just a peel. Someone had removed the fruit and left the peel (pretty much intact) in the fruit bowl. I said to my self "ok...weird" and grabbed the other banana. SAME THING! EMPTY BANANA! Someone had sliced the banana open on the backside and left the peel in the fruit bowl! I couldn't throw it away, needed to leave proof for my husband. He swears he didn't do it, so that leaves the kids. Probably wasn't the littles, they don't have the knife skills. So what was the 12 year old thinking!

I make it through work, staff meetings on Wednesdays and we are having computer problems all day. So everything takes twice as long. Right as I'm leaving my work phone starts acting up. But I get out of there ok. I go and pick up my kids, no problem. About 2 blocks from my house I get pulled over. It was one of those you know I was speeding, I know I was speeding, just give me the ticket and lets get this over with things. I think I pulled over before he turned his lights on. My 4 year old tried sweet talking the cop but I just wasn't feeling it.
The kids and I made it home and went straight into the back yard and found along with our giant lab/chow mix, Camper, another strange tiny dog. Luckily it seems like they were getting along. Our dog is really big, but super sweet. The little dog seemed friendly too. So we coaxed him over, he did have tags, and turns out his name is Kobe...Kobe Bryant. My kids loved Kobe, but we did call his mom and she came over to pick him up. At this point we are late to church where my 12 year old swears that he didn't touch the bananas. In fact he doesn't even like bananas! So did my husband not notice and buy empty bananas at the grocery store? Possibly! But after talking it out I think it was my mischevious 2 year old. He is a climber and I did find him on the kitchen counter the day before right by the bananas and I have been finding banana pieces EVERYWHERE. I think that since they were brand new bananas, the peel was still crisp and he, not knowing how to peel it, just bent in until a seam opened up in the back. WHEW! Ranting feels good!

On to the knitting, I did finish my Velveteen Monster Cowl. It's blocked and ready to wear, but I don't have any pictures yet, so you'll have to check my project page on Rav. I've also been working on my hubby's sweater vest, Grizzly Mangyle. I want to finish it by the end of the month, his birthday is the 30th. So my goal is to do 1 chart repeat per night, it takes me about an hour. Last night excluded, I've done pretty well. Last night I was in my bed hiding under my covers not touching anything, just in case.
My only bright spot yesterday was a little stash enhancement. I was lucky enough to score a little Lollipop Yarn in her update on Sunday. I got a ball of Watercolor Memories. It's a rainbow, but a little muted, which I LOVE! Please don't be jealous, it was my second time trying, and someone upstairs knew that my day needed a little perk I guess!
I've also started on my second April Sock!
Later!

Stash Update

I got some pictures of what I've received lately. So I'm going to list for you what it is, where I got it, and what I plan to do with it.

First up is Madelinetosh Tosh Sock Yarn from Jimmy Beans Wool. This was a special edition colorway just for JBW. I don't think that they have any more in the sock yarn, but it is available in other bases, I noticed Vintage specifically. I think it is destined to be a Sockhead Hat.

More sock yarn! I also got a package from the UK! This is from Juno Fibre Arts om Etsy. It's her Buffy sock base which is superwash BFL. Gorgeous yarn with subtle colors. I recently bought The Knitters Curiosity Cabinet I & II by Hunter Hammersen and this will hopefully grow up to be one of the socks from the book. I think any of them will be lovely with the subtle verigation.

The next 2 are both from Gnome Acres in her House Gnome sock base. They are both going to be socks, though I haven't decided which pattern to use yet. The first one is Lady Camo and the second is Irene Adler, which is a Sherlock reference. Both are showing sold out in the House Gnome right now. But she updates her shop every 3 weeks and it's available in other bases. I also got some more mini skeins from her and another skein of sock yarn she calls Skeinny Dunker Surprise. These are the skeins that she uses to soak up any remaining dye, so they are random colors. Mine is very verigated. It looks like Easter exploded, a lot like her Little Bunny Foo Foo colorway.

Next up is from my fallback Knit Picks. They are having a book sale so I got the Hunter Hammersen books and one other of their pattern books Illuminated Lines. Just as an add on (to get free shipping!) I got a skein of their new sock yarn Hawthorne. Again it's very subtle. I got the Nob Hill colorway which is mostly purple with a little green. Their blog says that this yarn is hand painted in 2 stages, first tonal and then multi-hued. I think I picked the most subtle of the colorways, but I haven't opened the skein up yet to see if there is more green. This will probably become another Hunter Hammersen sock.

Now we have the self stripers! First is from Julianna's on Etsy. This colorway is called North, to the Future. I loved the colors but the name got me. I had to Google it to find out, but apparently this is Alaska's motto. My husband is obsessed with Alaska, so I had to get it. I don't know if he will appreciate anything in these colors, but I'll try. I like it for myself too! Not sure what they will be yet. Maybe Partying it UP and Getting DOWN Socks by Megan Williams or maybe just plain vanilla?

Last but not least, is a skein from Simply Socks Yarn. It's their sock yarn line called Poste. The colorway is called Green Bay Pride. Now you will have to humor me for a second. I am not a Packers fan. I live in the Dallas area, I am required by law and taxes to root for the Cowboys. But, and you can tell me I'm wrong, but this looks Green and Gold to me, Sic' Em Bears. This wonderful colorway is going to be sock for my Baylor University alum step-father.

There is more!! Eeekk!
